Tjakramedia.com JAKARTA – The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Military Police Center (Puspom) has swiftly responded to the alleged acid attack on activist Andrie Yunus. Following a series of intensive investigations, military authorities have officially named a TNI member as a suspect in the high-profile case.
The suspect’s designation is seen as a positive signal for legal reform within the military. The cross-sector coordination and transparency demonstrated by TNI Headquarters are considered to be a difference in handling recent cases of violence involving officers.
Asip Irama, Chairman of the Jakarta Regional Leadership Council (DPD) of the National Student Movement (GMPK), expressed his high appreciation for the performance of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Military Police Center (Puspom TNI). He stated that this decisive action demonstrates that the slogan “TNI with the People” is not mere rhetoric, but is embodied in the impartial rule of law.
“We at GMPK highly appreciate the swift and decisive action of the Indonesian National Armed Forces Military Police (Puspom TNI). The naming of internal figures as suspects demonstrates the TNI Commander’s strong commitment to ridding the institution of individuals who violate the public trust,” said Asip in a written statement on Wednesday (March 18, 2026).
Asip emphasized that the TNI’s speed in identifying the perpetrators and disclosing the information to the public is a commendable form of transparency. The public has often been skeptical about legal cases involving members of the military, but the TNI’s Military Police Center (Puspom TNI) has successfully dispelled that stigma.
In addition to commending the Military Information Center (Puspom), Asip specifically highlighted the central role of the Head of the Indonesian National Armed Forces Information Center (Kapuspen) in clearly communicating case developments. He believes the current Kapuspen TNI’s communication style reflects the future high-ranking officer the institution desperately needs.
“We see how well the Head of the Indonesian National Armed Forces Information Center (Puspen TNI) manages information. He is a future high-ranking officer who is professional, open, and not resistant to criticism. The narrative he constructs is very transparent, leaving no room for fake news or wild speculation in the community,” Asip praised.
For GMPK, the professionalism of the Head of the TNI Information Center guarantees that the information reaching the public is objectively factual. This type of high-ranking officer is considered capable of bridging the gap between the military and the millennial and Gen Z generations, who are highly critical of information transparency.
Asip also provided critical notes by comparing the handling of the Andrie Yunus case with several major past cases that still leave question marks, one of which is the KM 50 incident.
“If we look at the KM 50 case, which remains murky and has left much speculation, the TNI’s actions in the Andrie Yunus case set a refreshing new standard. The TNI demonstrated that transparency is key to public trust,” Asip continued.
He added that the transparency demonstrated today is far more advanced and bold. The institution’s courage to acknowledge the involvement of individuals without concealing the facts is considered a chivalrous move that will strengthen the TNI’s standing in the eyes of young people.
